The fireplace is by E.M. Barry, and is made of marbles of many colours from various parts of the British Isles. On either side is a metal statuette: on the left St George, with his shield bearing the red cross; and on the right St Michael, like St George slaying a dragon.

This gilded and coloured set piece in the High Victorian style is covered with the initials of Queen Victoria.
