On either side of the throne stand two enormous candelabra, designed by Pugin, and manufactured by John Hardman. Pugin designed them to be lit by gas, but it was early decided that, though the gallery might be lit by gas, the floor of the Chamber should be candlelit. He thus had to redesign them with more branches.
