The Archway into the Commons Chamber [ Play
Narrated and Animated Movie ! ] In a lively debate on 25th January 1945, when Sir Giles Gilbert Scott was recommended as architect for the re-building together with Dr. Oscar Faber as engineer, Sir Winston Churchill pleaded for the retention of the damaged archway into the Chamber from the Lobby. He felt it should be retained 'as a monument to the ordeal which Westminster has passed through in the Great War, and as a reminder to those who will come centuries after us that they may look back from time to time upon their forebears who, kept the bridge in the brave days of old'.
