St.Stephen with Edward the Confessor and King Stephen [ Play
Narrated and Animated Movie ! ] This mosaic by R. Anning Bell commemorates St Stephen, dedicatee of the old St Stephen's Chapel which occupied this site until the fire of 1834. The Saint, who was the first Christian martyr, holds a stone, in allusion to his martyrdom by stoning to death. On the right side of the picture Edward the Confessor presents a ring to a beggar; while on the other side King Stephen appears, with mail, spear and shield. The mosaic was completed in 1925.
