The Bar of the House marks the point beyond which no stranger may pass while the House is in session. On the floor it is marked with a white strip, and at waist level forms a physical bar, in the form of an octagonal telescopic brass pole which is pulled out on either side to keep strangers out.

This bar was presented to the rebuilt House of Commons by Jamaica.
